On Kindergarten and Fall Birthdays
In Winchester, VA, the cutoff for fall birthdays for Kindergarten registration is September 30th.
In our county, it’s August 31st.
In some places, it’s July 31st.
It sure would be easier if they’d all agree to one date!
When we made the decision to put Pumpkin Doodle in Kindergarten last year, it was both an easy and a hard [...]
So, how’s homeschooling going with 4 kids under 6?
Well, thanks for asking! LOL!
It’s actually going really, really well, but the reason I haven’t written this post before now is because it’s taken us until very recently to find our groove. (The flu might have played a part in that taking even longer than I expected.)
We actually made some pretty drastic changes this month [...]
A Bird Book
I wish I could take credit for this project because it’s probably the coolest one we’ve ever done, but the truth is that Pumpkin Doodle came up with it all on her own.
One day last week, she set out on an “adventure” with her Pop, and when she returned, she declared that she wanted to [...]
Homeschooling 101: A Look Back at The First Month
Wow, I can’t really believe that we’re already through our first month of school. It’s gone by so fast!
It was a great month of figuring out what schooling is going to look like for us, even though I know that’s all probably going to change when the baby arrives anyway.
Lessons I’ve Learned

One Week Down, Six Hundred and Twelve (or more!) to Go…
Okay, so I don’t really know how many weeks of school we have left until our youngest child finishes, but I thought I’d assign a random number to it for perspective!
Our first week went really well. It wasn’t without its challenges (more on those in a minute), but Pumpkin Doodle cried when she realized Saturday [...]
Homeschooling with Sonlight: Books, Books and More Books
With our first week behind us, I’m excited to be officially homeschooling. It’s something I’ve looked forward to since Pumpkin Doodle was born, and it’s turning out to be as much fun as I hoped it would be! I’ll share some of our challenges and successes from the first week in another post, but I [...]
The Whys Behind Our Decision to Homeschool
I’m not sure we fit the stereotypical homeschool family mold (although we seem to be heading that way with our country living and growing family…) when it comes to our decision to homeschool, and I wanted to share some of our reasons here.
To explain the whys of our decision, let me start by telling you [...]
Homeschooling 101
Oh, no, I’m not teaching Homeschooling 101. I’m living it.
Monday will be our first day as official homeschoolers, and we’re all really excited to get started. I don’t exactly know what homeschooling is going to look like for us for the whole year, but I have some ideas to start us off, and we’ll adjust [...]
