An Attempt at Homemade Shaped Crayons

So…I first saw this recycled-crayon project several weeks ago, and I’ve been wanting to try it ever since. I figured heart-shaped crayons would be much more fun than muffin-tin crayons for Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, while Marie linked to a site that recommended using cookie cutters on a foil-lined baking sheet, this was really a project that was doomed from the start.
Perhaps – perhaps! – this would have worked if I had carefully molded the foil AROUND the cookie cutters and placed something heavy on top of them to weigh them down. As it turned out, though, all I ended up with were big puddles of melted crayons around my cookie cutters. Not exactly what I was going for.

Fortunately, my friend Shaina came to the rescue and sent my girls dozens of adorable mini hearts that she made using candy molds.
(I’d show you pictures, but we cannot find the charger for my camera battery, and it is dead. I’m not sure I can live without my camera!)

Yikes! Sorry for the bad link. But I do like your idea of wrapping the foil around the mold. I guess that would be the only way to do it if you didn’t have molds, but almost seems like too much work to get them.
I’m so glad you posted this. It’s good to see what happens when things go wrong, I need to show that more, that my stuff doesn’t always come out. I only show the ones that worked!! Thanks for linking to me.

You never know unless you try. I did this in a heart shaped muffin tin for Valentine’s Day and most of mine came out okay but some didn’t melt enough and came out bumpy with chunks of crayon in them. It was fun trying it though
Trial and error…that’s how we learn
I am encouraged though to try and make it work for the next time I make a mistake…I would just have tossed it and not thought twice about doing it again.
You’re so good like that!
