Birthday Princess Hat and Wand

I absolutely love felt projects because there are so many possibilities, and it is so, so, so easy to work with!
So it’s no surprise that when I saw this princess wand at Zakka Life and this princess hat at Skip to My Lou, I just knew they’d be perfect for Monkey Doodle’s birthday. I literally whipped both up on Saturday morning before her party – and not because of my mad skilz, but because they really are that simple.
Felt Princess Wand
Supplies
Felt in two contrasting colors
Polyfill
A wooden dowel
Ribbon
To make the wand, simply cut out two large stars plus a smaller star as embellishment (templates available at Zakka Life). Sew the smaller star onto one of the larger stars and then sew both stars together, leaving a small opening to stuff it and insert the dowel. Fill it with the polyfill and then put a little bit of glue on the dowel and insert it into the star. Tie a ribbon at the bottom of the star, and you’re done!
Felt Princess Hat
Supplies
Felt in two contrasting colors
Interfacing (or another piece of felt if you don’t have any interfacing!)
Tulle
Elastic
To make the hat, cut a piece of felt and interfacing as shown in the picture. I didn’t have any interfacing, so I simply used a piece of white felt as a second layer, and it worked well enough.
Next, cut out your embellishment for the bottom of the hat plus a number for your birthday girl and sew both to the felt.
Make an inside-out cone and sew the sides of the hat together as close to the edge as you can. When using two pieces of felt, you may want to pin the pieces or first. Alternatively, leave a larger seam and simply trim it once you’re done.
At the top (with the hat still inside out) insert 3-4 pieces of tulle from the right side of the hat and continue sewing so the ends are stitched as part of the seam.
Turn the hat right side out and tack a piece of elastic to both sides of the hat as a chin strap. We didn’t have any elastic, but I realized halfway through the morning that I had an elastic headband I could cut and use as a strap, so I quickly added that.
And that’s it – two easy projects to make any birthday girl feel special!

I am so going to attempt to copy you!!! I have time though, Lilli’s birthday is in April & Corinne & Eleanor’s are in July. You’re so good about finding this stuff!!!

Those are so sweet and I think you do have some mad skilz. Although they do look easy enough for me to attempt too. I do think that they would make any birthday princess feel special!
Those are just too cute! I have never made projects with felt like that before but you have inspired me. I love the idea of creating special ways to make the birthday girl feel special.
