Valentine’s Day Candy Canes

(Think I can get away with posting Valentine’s Day crafts and treats without anyone noticing that it’s a week after the holiday? We didn’t celebrate until Monday when Brittany and her girls came for a little party, and I figure at least the ideas will be here for next year!)

candy canes to be melted

Marie from Make and Takes shared this awesome project a few weeks ago, and I knew it was one I wanted to try, especially since I have dozens of candy canes left over from my attempt to make chocolate-covered candy canes for Christmas.

I’m still thinking about possible projects for next Christmas, but in the meantime, they made some fun Valentine’s Day candy as well!

To make, simply break the candy canes into pieces and bake at 250 degrees for 10 minutes (mine took a little bit longer than this).

Pull them out and shape them into letters, hearts or any other shape your heart desires (haha, so punny!).

shaped candy canes

I made the larger hearts using the curved portion from two candy canes.  I prefer the smaller hearts, though, which were shaped from the straight side from one candy cane each.

What other shapes could be made with candy canes? Do you think it’s weird to use candy canes for holidays and occasions other than Christmas?

  1. I’ve always associated the *cane* with Christmas…but making them into different shapes…well, then they could be used for any event! And you’ll have fresh breath :)
