Homeschooling 101
Oh, no, I’m not teaching Homeschooling 101. I’m living it.
Monday will be our first day as official homeschoolers, and we’re all really excited to get started. I don’t exactly know what homeschooling is going to look like for us for the whole year, but I have some ideas to start us off, and we’ll adjust as we go. Mostly, we’ll be taking it slow and focusing on making learning fun!
Tuesday I hope to have pictures to post of all the fun first-day-of-school activities I have planned that I hope will become annual traditions. But I’ll also be sharing the what, how and whys of our decision to homeschool this week.
Side note: My pictures may just be a little more vivid and artistic than they’ve been in the past thanks to my wonderful husband and the awesome deal he snagged me on a Sony DSLR-A200. I’ve been wanting a DSLR for more than a year now, and our patience paid off. And I’m in love – with my husband, and with my camera. Although it’s more like a “falling in love, getting to know you” stage of love at this point with the camera as I try to figure out what the heck to do with it and all of its many buttons!
If you’re a homeschooler, I’d love to hear your experiences and advice as we go. And if you’re not a homeschooler, fear not! It definitely won’t be all homeschooling this and homeschooling that from here on out, so I hope you’ll stick around!

How exciting! This year will be our first year of homeschooling, too. Our official start date was going to be the Tuesday after Labor Day, but my daughter is so excited about it and got a little bored last week so we started our grammar and literature a bit early. Like you, I don’t know exactly what homeschool will look like at our house, but I am excited about it! Can’t wait to hear how Monday goes!!

Wow you are starting back to school early. I’m sure you’ll be able to learn as you go with homeschooling and it will be a learning experience for you and your kids. I don’t homeschool myself so no advice but I’m sure you’ll have good luck.

Hi Mandi,
I came across your blog through your transcription blog probably some time ago. I don’t think I’ve ever commented, but I’ve always enjoyed reading your posts, transcription and your family. I have been a medical transcriptionist for about 11 years and quit last June when it became too hectic to work from home and raise our girls.
I am a mom to 2 girls, 6 and 2, and one more girl on the way, due beginning of October. We homeschooled our oldest for the first time last year. I’m a little anxious regarding her first grade year though since I’ll have the new baby and a toddler, so I’m thinking her first grade year may be a bit more laid back than kindergarten (probably not a formal curriculum but more eclectic and hopefully more crafts).
I am excited to read about your homeschooling adventures!
Warmly,
Marla

Mandi,
I love the pictures of your girls on your blog. You will have such a good time this year. You know your a mom you have been basically “Homeschooling” your girls since they have been born you are just bringing one more aspect of learning to the table. Have fun with it. There is no right or wrong way with this.

I stumbled upon your blog from your homseschooling post on Organizing Your Way. I’m SAHM to DD (13 mo), possibly considering homeschooling as well - it’s never too early to start figuring out what you’ll do, right?
Looking forward to reading about your experience!
