“Labor” Day Meme

This meme made the rounds last Labor Day, and I thought it was so much fun. I was really hoping to have Sidney’s stats to add to it (and to be honest, I’m feeling very worn out and discouraged today after a run to L&D yesterday morning that definitely did not result in a teeny tiny baby!), but I figured I’d repost it anyway!

I would love to hear your stats too!

How long were your labors?
Pumpkin Doodle – 3 hours, 6 minutes
Monkey Doodle – 6 hours, 30 minutes
Sweet Doodle – 4 hours, 38 minutes

How did you know you were in labor?
Pumpkin Doodle – water broke with a “pop”
Monkey Doodle – intense contractions that woke me up
Sweet Doodle – wasn’t sure I WAS in labor, intense but intermittent back pain

Where did you deliver?
Pumpkin Doodle – a hospital in Utah
Monkey Doodle – a birthing center in Maryland
Sweet Doodle – a hospital in Virginia

Drugs?
Pumpkin Doodle – no
Monkey Doodle – no
Sweet Doodle – yes, a spinal

C-section?
Pumpkin Doodle – no
Monkey Doodle – no
Sweet Doodle – yes, because she was footling breech, which we didn’t discover until we got to the hospital the morning of her birth and discovered I was dilating very quickly and “I’m pretty sure this is not a head.” My first thought? “My baby doesn’t have a head?” Not the brightest bulb…

Who delivered?
Pumpkin Doodle – a doctor who I had never met before
Monkey Doodle – the one midwife in the practice who I had never met before
Sweet Doodle – a doctor who I had never met before

(And a bonus question) How long were you pregnant?
Pumpkin Doodle – 39 weeks, 4 days
Monkey Doodle – 37 weeks, 2 days
Sweet Doodle – 38 weeks

  1. OH MY GOODNESS! Your baby photo in the post below is SO PRECIOUS! I think that is the sweetest photo I’ve ever seen. BR/BR/My, yours all came fast! Are they still like that? Beautiful family!

  2. Mandy, I’ve been checking out your blog and just read your Monday post, the 25th. I have to comment on that! I am a cross-culture worker, one of those who is supposed to have it all together spiritually, if you know what I mean. But the demands of parenting this past year have been so tremendous, that it has seemed like I have regressed. I have often wondered “what in the world am I doing here?’BR/BR/Plus, it is so hard to have consistent time with the Lord when your kids are needing you at all hours of the day and night. BR/BR/My weekend post had some thoughts about this journey for me. Basically, I am learning that my feelings can hold me back from God’s promises. It takes discipline to keep His promises before you.BR/BR/The other thing that has helped me is to keep an eye out for what God is teaching you. It may not come to your attention right away, but He is doing something and in time you will be able to see it.BR/BR/One last thing, I used to really love studying the Word. I still do, but I just don’t have the time. My husband recently bot me a daily bible and I am just reading a little bit of each day’s entry and meditating on that. It is kind of like after a fast- you can’t eat a full meal, but small portions will serve just as well. In those times, a little bit of the Source of Life is just the sustenance you need.BR/BR/Okay, sorry for the book! God bless!

  3. I’m impressed…you know to the minute AND day about each of your labors/pregnancies…I’m more of the “labor took ABOUT x hours…” and “I was pregnant for ABOUT 40 weeks…” Lol

  4. Thanks so much, Heidi! I really appreciate your encouragement as well – I love the idea of a daily devotional Bible. Right now I’m just trying to keep my Bible open to Psalms on the counter and read a bit here or there as we’re going about our day, and I think that’s helping as well!

  5. Ha, Brittany – surely you know me well enough to not be TOO surprised by my type A ways. :P

  6. Oh fun!! I want to play too - I enjoyed reading about your labors! I guess it’s not true that each labor usually gets shorter… although yours were short to begin with so it didn’t matter much! Thanks for sharing!

  7. I laughed out loud at “My baby doesn’t have a head?” Our bulb’s go dim during pregnancy. I don’t know if there is a study on it, but with each one my bulb has become dimmer. ROFLOL BTW, our darling daughter’s nickname is Missy Doodle. LOVE all your names for the little ones.

  8. Your post made me laugh out loud! Thanks for sharing your stories. Interesting that you’d never met any of the people who delivered your babies… I am due in less than 4 weeks and have enjoyed reading the stories from RIMD. My friends are giving me advice this week on our blog if you have any you’d like to share with me!

  9. Oh! I love this! I had to do it on my girls’ site :)

I know you are so ready for baby to come! I hope it is soon!

  10. Oh my goodness! Your labors are fast! I loved reading all your stats, and I’ll be excited to read how baby #4 arrives. :-)
