Tomorrow is the Day!!!
Whew, what a roller coaster ride the past week has been. Last Friday, I started experiencing crampy contractions and was sure we’d have a baby over the weekend. Unfortunately, despite a trip to L&D with contractions every 3-5 minutes on Sunday, they just never seemed to get productive enough to move into active labor.
To put it mildly, I was grumpy and discouraged by Monday.
I did however, manage to fix my attitude so that the week hasn’t been an entire waste, and on Wednesday we headed to the OB for my 39-week appointment. It was also my scheduled pre-op appointment for the c-section that we scheduled for 9/14, not ever expecting that I would make it that far!
My OB, who I absolutely love, came into the room and said, “Well, this is supposed to be your pre-op appointment, but I didn’t even bring the paperwork in with me because I want to talk about other options.”
To be honest, since I was never against a c-section in the first place (my recovery from my last was a breeze — easier than my vaginal births), I had been waffling on what to do, so I appreciated her taking charge!
She checked my cervix — now 3cm, baby’s head fully engaged — and asked if I’d be interested in an amniotomy, or having my water broken to induce labor. Yes! OH, yes! My first two births happened very quickly after my water broke (3 hours start to finish with Pumpkin Doodle and an hour and 15 minutes with Monkey Doodle), and I’m feeling fairly confident that it will be the push my body needs to get in gear. And hey, if I end up with a c-section again, I was okay with that to begin with, so it feels like a win-win situation.
We scheduled a bed at the hospital for 8am tomorrow morning, and I can’t wait! The only bummer is my little sis was supposed to be one of my labor support people, and she has a test she can’t miss tomorrow, so she won’t be there. I am actually really bummed about that, but she will still be able to come after her test with my parents and stay through Tuesday afternoon, so I’m looking forward to that!
So…look for pictures and an update sometime tomorrow!
