Sorting Beans

It had been a while since we pulled out any of our transferring items, and when Brittany posted about transferring buttons, it reminded me of something I wanted to try. Previously, the girls had NO interest in sorting at all, but I decided to see what they thought now since it’s been a few months.

I cut an 18-egg egg carton in half and sorted one of 9 different types of mixed beans into each of the cups.

Pumpkin Doodle, who’s almost 4, figured out what she was supposed to do right away and got right to work.

When we first started, I had to encourage Monkey Doodle to “look for the beans with the spots” – the most obvious of the characteristics – but once she figured it out, she was excited to look for them and try sorting some of the others as well.

It didn’t end up holding their attention for as long as I hoped it would, but I definitely think we’ll keep it on our list of activities to do again.

  1. I bet the Devs would like doing that. Hmmm … what else to sort, other than buttons?

  2. That is a good question…Chex Mix or another snack, maybe?
