New Years’ Resolutions…

So, remember when I told you I sometimes buck expectations just because they’re there? I do that in blogging too. I didn’t post a look back at 2008 in December or my resolutions for the year on January 1st. Why? Well, there was the fact that December was slightly busy for us. But also, I just don’t like doing things just because they’re expected!

That said, I did want to tell you about my New Year’s resolution, even if it is a couple weeks late. It’s not really a resolution, and I didn’t really think it up ahead of time. However, it does seem to be my theme right now, so I’ve decided to call it a resolution and see where it takes me.

This year, I’m trying to be more feminine. I know, kind of a weird resolution.

I’m just not very feminine. I know nothing about fashion, don’t particularly like shoes, don’t typically wear a lot of jewelry, live in t-shirts and jeans. You know, I’m a typical busy mom.

But femininity isn’t something I had and then lost. I’ve really never been particularly feminine. I was never the type of girl to bring my makeup with me and touch it up halfway through the evening. I basically stick a pair of earrings in my ear and they stay there for months (years?). My only other jewelry that I wear on a regular basis is my wedding/engagement ring set.

So what does this resolution look like? Really, I’m just making little changes, accessorizing a little more, trying to be more conscious about it in general.

::I bought a “Mine for Eternity” stamped necklace with my Christmas money. Stamped necklaces are all the rage right now, and they’re the perfect balance of being feminine but not dainty, trendy but not too trendy. I’m still waiting for it to arrive, but I’m so excited!

::I also got myself some new earrings, like these light grey pearl ones, and a set of dangly ones from good ol’ Wal-Mart

::I’m trying to wear “cute” outfits more, even just around the house, and maybe put on mascara and some blush more often that just Sundays when we leave the house. I’m trying not to pull my hair back into a ponytail every day.

::Finally, my mom and sis are going shopping with me next Monday to help me get some feminine, nice, professional clothes for the upcoming BlissDom Conference. New clothes aren’t required for attendance, obviously, but it seems like a good excuse to give my wardrobe some new life.

This resolution has been a long time in coming, actually. Last December, when I finally got my nose ring after a year of thinking about and wishing for one, I immediately loved it because it made me feel so feminine without having to do anything extra.

I guess that started me down this path, and now I want to do a little more.

What were your New Year’s resolutions? How are you doing so far?

  1. Such an inspiring post for me! I totally need to do the little things to be more feminine, too. Thanks for the motivation!

  2. The jewelry looks pretty. I especially like the necklace. BR/ I need to make a similar committment. Since I’m home all day with toddlers, my clothes are stained with fingerpaint and everything else. I’ve been trying to make an effort to look nicer even if I’m just staying at home. BR/BR/Once when my daughter was a baby, I had answered the door for the mailman and didn’t realize until after the fact that I had not brushed my hair yet.
